Tinkerman : Facing the devil

Back story
Next game is crucial. A must not lose game at Old Trafford to qualify to the next round of UEFA Champions League. To be knocked out at group stage will left Silvio Berlusconi fuming.

Man Utd snatch 1-1 draw earlier fixture in San Siro.

Scout re-confirm Moyes will not divert from his favourite 4-4-2

Preparation
I chose 3-5-2 taking cue from Antonio Conte's Scudetto Juventus. Imitating the trinity of Pogba-Vidal-Pirlo in centre midfield. All action duo M'Villa and Poli patrol in front of defence to stop Mata & Ronney from operating in the hole thus isolating Chicharito the opportunist poacher. Montolivo stay central coordinating play.

RWB Abate & LW Atsu will perform Asamoah-Lichtsteiner flank role; harassing Valencia & Januzaj at half way line. Be vertical, all five midfielders will counter quickly & pass directly to speedy El Sharawy or hitman Balotelli. Rami & Paletta are typical stoppers, so I add De Sciglio for better backline mobility.

Matchday Starting Line-Up

Its only 16 minutes but Man Utd strikers already grab goal apiece.

Mr. Why Always Me struck well before half-time.

Half-time possession shows Milan were not over-run, heading back to the tunnel with optimism.

Il Faraone speed wreaking havoc on Red Devils backline & brought down deliberately. De Gea seems to receive tips from Pepe Reina on how to save Balotelli penalty.

But De Gea commit a howler. El Sharawy at the right place at the right time.

Draw is enough. Milan quickly converts to back four.

Super-subs combine & send Man Utd packing to UEFA Europa League.

Game over. Milan were calm in the 2nd half.

Late drama, Milan acknowledges the travelling Rossoneri faithfuls.

It was not a game for the faint hearted. All round action from the get go.

Arrived with a positive mindset. Leaving with another memorable night in Manchester.

Mata were kept quiet in midfield.

Both Valencia & Jones failed to neutralise Atsu.

Talking point
Follows in the footsteps of Michels, Cruyff and Van Gaal. Play one more defender than the opposition has attackers.
Quality on the bench is essential. Bring them in late on to rattle the opposition.
